Chateau belaussel, an organic registered estate has 350 acres of vineyards under the appellation corbieres, the most important appellation in the languedoc region of southern france. the vineyards are surrounded by the pyrenean high hills around the alaric mountain and create an exceptional climatic shelter. the soils are limestone and red marls and the vineyards are planted in varying terroirs with different sun exposures. the grapes grown are carignan, grenache noir, syrah, mourvedre and cinsault. chteau belaussels choice to farm organically is to preserve a balanced and sound environment. grapes 80 carignan, 10 grenache and 10 mourvdre from hillside vineyards situated on the southerly slopes of mount alaric in the terroir de lagrasse. vinification the grapes are hand-picked and destalked. traditional vinification takes place with maximum extraction. fermentation lasts 20-25 days with several pumping overs and rack and returns. the wine is matured in cement vats for a minimum of 8 months. taste a deep colour and an inviting aroma of ripe red fruits make this a lovely example of a full-flavoured wine from the south - and as a bonus it is organic. certification the entire estate is farmed in accordance with the organic growing methods. the authority harvest is ecocert certified. |
